As the nation approaches its 250th birthday, this Letterboxing challenge is a unique way to celebrate the centuries-old road that became the Bikeway we know today. It's also a fun way to identify 10 important historical sites along the trail.
What is Letterboxing?
Never heard of Letterboxing? It's a growing hobby that combines orienteering, art, and puzzle-solving. Participants use clues (often riddles) to find hidden treasures (stamps) and complete a challenge. And the best part? It's completely free!
Embark on a Historical Treasure Hunt
The "Letterbox the Bikeway" challenge takes you on a journey from the Bikeway's starting point in Glens Falls to its end at Battlefield Park in Lake George. Along the way, you'll encounter 10 historically significant locations.
Unveiling the Secrets
Your mission is to find these Letterboxing sites by following riddles provided in a special passport. Solve the riddles, locate the weatherproof boxes containing stamps, and mark your passport to document your progress. You can pick up your passport at the Warren County Chamber Office located at 3839 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY.
A Journey Through Time
The Letterboxing sites highlight historical landmarks like Fort Amherst, Halfway Brook, Colonel Williams Monument, and even battlegrounds. As you explore, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for the role Warren County played in shaping the early years of the United States.
